I was asked recently by my friends at Vaerker, a Seoul-based bag designer, for a few photos of one of their latest designs. My wife Kelly and I took an afternoon walk down to our local river to shoot some natural product photography in the rich summer light.
The water was a particularly rich colour, and we used some wild brush growing nearby to add a bright, natural look to the photographs. The reflection of a nearby barge in the surface of the river helped with a patterned effect.
When I do product photography, especially for fashion brands, I always focus on the design details and find a way to draw attention to them where I can. In this case it was twisting the bag until the light caught the buckle and the zipper, then framing them cleanly against the water.
Something I love about being a freelance fashion photographer in Seoul is that there are so many amazing locations to do a photoshoot. Somehow, even when I’ve shot there before, it always feels like there is some new angle to find, and some fresh way to make photographs that stand out.
